Staten Island, NY – Wagner head baseball coach Jim Carone has announced the Seahawks’ 55-game schedule for the 2013 season. Highlighting the slate are 21 games at Richmond County Bank Ballpark, a trip to 2012 NCAA Super Super Regional participant North Carolina State and a pair of early-season road trips to Richmond and Norfolk State.
For the sixth-straight year, Wagner will play its home games at the aforementioned Richmond County Bank Ballpark, which also doubles as the home of the Class A Short-Season Staten Island Yankees of the New York Penn League. Over their first five years at the stadium, the Seahawks have gone 71-37 (.657), including 46-24 (.657) during Northeast Conference (NEC) play.
Wagner will kick off Carone’s second season against La Salle on Friday, February 22 at the NC State Tournament. The Seahawks will then take on the host Wolfpack on day two of the tournament, before finishing the season-opening three-game trip with a Sunday matinee against Villanova.
The Green & White returns to the road each of the next two weekends with a pair of three-game sets at Richmond (3/1-3/3) and Norfolk State (3/9-3/10), with a midweek game at Fordham (3/5) sandwiched between the two.
Wagner will then cap its season-opening 14-game road trip with a game at VCU (3/12) and an appearance in the Philadelphia Big 5 Baseball bash that will see the Seahawks travel to La Salle (3/15), Saint Joseph’s (3/16) and Villanova (3/17).
The Green & White will then return to Staten Island for the home opener against Lafayette on Tuesday, March 19 at 3:30 pm, before traveling to two-time defending NEC Champion Sacred Heart (3/22-3/24) in the teams’ conference opener.
Wagner returns home to face Saint Peter’s in Staten Island with the teams partaking in a series-opening doubleheader on Thursday, March 28, before concluding the bye-weekend match-up with a single game on Saturday, March 30.
The Seahawks open April with a game at NCAA Super Regional participant St. John’s (4/3), before hosting Fairleigh Dickinson (4/5-4/7) and Seton Hall (4/10). Following trips to Monmouth (4/12-4/14) and Saint Peter’s (4/16), the Green & White return home to host Central Connecticut (4/19-4/21).
Wagner will then end April with a six-game road trip that will take the Seahawks to Rutgers (4/24), Quinnipiac (4/26-4/28) and NJIT (4/30).
The Green & White begins May with four games at home against Mount St. Mary’s (5/3-5/5). Following a trip to LIU Brooklyn (5/10-5/12), Wagner will wrap up the regular season with a home series against Bryant (5/17-5/19).
The NEC Tournament will take place from May 23-26 at the location yet to be determined.
