ATLANTA – The Georgia State baseball team has released its 2013 schedule that includes five in-state opponents and features 27 games against Colonial Athletic Association foes.
The Panthers begin the 2013 campaign against Butler on February 15 at 4 p.m. at Panthersville. In all, GSU will play 30 games at home in 2013.
“The schedule was developed to prepare the team for CAA Conference play,” said head coach Greg Frady. “Our non-conference schedule will challenge our young team and take us to places (cities) that GSU baseball hasn’t been before.”
Georgia State will five in-state rivals this season with the annual cross-town matchup against Georgia Tech slated for February 19 at 4 p.m. at Russ Chandler Stadium. The Panthers have won two out of the last three meetings with the Yellow Jackets including a 5-4 win at home last season.
The Panthers host the University of Georgia February 26 at 4 p.m. and face Atlantic Coast Conference member Boston College March 1 through March 3 in St. Petersburg, Fla.
GSU and Kennesaw State face off four times in 2013 with the Panthers traveling to Kennesaw, Ga. on March 13 and April 16. The Owls come to Panthersville April 9 and May 8. The Panthers also face local rival Mercer at home March 19 and in Macon, Ga. March 20.
The Panthers will begin their final season in the CAA March 8, as they host George Mason in the first game of a three-game set. GSU will also face Old Dominion, UNCW, Delaware, James Madison, Northeastern, Towson, Hofstra, and William & Mary during the conference portion of the season. GSU closes out the 2013 regular season at William & Mary in a three-game series beginning May 16.
