2013 Old Dominion Schedule Announced

NORFOLK, VA–The 2013 Old Dominion University baseball schedule will feature 28 home games which include NCAA participants Virginia, N.C. State, Coastal Carolina, UNC Wilmington and East Carolina including two home games at War Memorial Stadium in Hampton, announced today by head baseball coach Chris Finwood.

“We are very excited about our 2013 schedule. We open the season in the Coastal Carolina tournament and play an exciting non-conference slate which includes, future Conference USA rivals Marshal and East Carolina as well as N.C. State and Virginia from the ACC. We have our traditional rivalries with VCU And VMI as well as out last tour through the CAA. With 28 home games at the always improving Bud Metheny Baseball Complex, our fans should see some exciting college Baseball.” – ODU head baseball coach Chris Finwood.

The Monarchs will play home-and-home non-conference games with East Carolina, VCU, VMI, Liberty, Richmond, and Norfolk State. Three-game non-conference home series will include Temple, and Rutgers. ODU will play VCU on April 23rd at War Memorial Stadium in Hampton, VA., as well as on Feb. 20th in Richmond at the Diamond. The Monarchs will play William and Mary in a non-conference game on May 14 at War Memorial Stadium.

On the road, the Monarchs will play single games at East Carolina, March 12, N.C. State, March 13, Virginia on April 17 along with a season ending two-game series at Wofford in Spartanburg, SC, May 17 and 18.

The Monarchs open the season on Feb. 15-17 at the Coastal Carolina Tournament in Myrtle Beach, SC. ODU’s home opening series is Feb. 22-24 against Rutgers. The first CAA home series will be March 8-10 against Northeastern. ODU will play nine CAA three-game series, hosting Northeastern, Towson, UNC Wilmington, William & Mary and George Mason.

On the road, ODU will play Georgia State, JMU, Hofstra and Delaware.This is the Monarchs final season in the CAA as they will be joining Conference-USA next season, and are not eligible for the CAA Tournament at the end of the season.

ODU returns sophomore CAA All-Rookie outfielder Josh Eldridge (.299 BA; 4 triples;26 RBI); senior pitcher Brandon Smith (8-1;4.64 ERA;3 SVS) and junior pitcher Dean Ali (3-4, 2.34 ERA, 2 SVS), along with junior firstbaseman Joey Burney (.270 BA; 4 HR;22 RBI). The Monarchs will also have 20 newcomers who received honorable mention recognition by Baseball America’s recruiting issue in October.
