MUNCIE, Ind. — The Ball State baseball team has released its 2013 baseball schedule which is highlighted by a spring break trip to South Carolina and Coastal Carolina. Both teams participated in the 2012 NCAA regionals with South Carolina advancing to the College World Series in Omaha.
“Our schedule will be very challenging as we play perennial baseball powers South Carolina (twice), Coastal Carolina (twice), Purdue (twice), Indiana, and Ohio State, as well as our Mid-American Conference schedule,” said Ball State head baseball coach Rich Maloney. “This is an exciting time for Ball State Baseball and we are excited about the opportunity to compete against the best.”
The Cardinals are slated to start the season with a three-game series at Middle Tennessee State (Feb. 15-17). Ball State stays south as it participates at the Lipscomb Tourney (Feb. 22-24), then Morehead State (March 1-3) before its six-day trip to the Carolinas (March 5-9).
Ball State faces seven in-state rivals in 2013 starting with the Cardinals’ home opener at Ball Diamond March 15 against IPFW. The IPFW series begins an eight-game home-stand, which includes Ball State’s first Mid-American Conference opponent Akron (March 22-24). The Cardinals will also host Indiana (April 17), Butler (March 20) and Valparaiso (March 27), in midweek action in addition to and a home and home series with Purdue (April 10/May 8) and a road trip to Indiana State (May 14).
In April the Cardinals are home for 10 games, which will include three-game MAC series against Central Michigan (April 12-14) and Ohio University (April 26-28). Ball State will then host two more league series in May versus Toledo (May 10-12) and Northern Illinois (May 16-18) before the MAC Tournament (May 22-25).
