OMAHA, Neb. – Keyed by 10 games against teams in the 2012 NCAA Tournament, Creighton head coach Ed Servais announced the Bluejays 2013 baseball schedule on Thursday, Oct. 25.
Creighton opens the season with 15 on the road beginning with a three game series at Dallas Baptist (Feb. 15-17). The Patriots finished their season at 41-18 and will be joining the Missouri Valley Conference in 2014.
The Jays head to Beaumont, Texas next to face Washington and Lamar in the Lamar Tournament. Creighton will play each team twice before traveling to Provo, Utah for a three-game set against BYU (March 1-3).
The next NCAA opponent comes as the Bluejays play in the Austin Peay Tournament from March 8-10. Creighton opens against Arkansas-Little Rock. The Jays face host Austin Peay, who made it to the Eugene Regional Final before bowing out in 2012, on March 9. Creighton wraps up the tournament against UW-Milwaukee on March 10, then faces SE Missouri State on March 12 in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
The 2013 home schedule begins on Thursday, March 14 as the Jays welcome North Dakota in for a single contest, then host Pacific for three (March 15-17) at TD Ameritrade Park. A midweek matchup with South Dakota State wraps up Creighton’s five-game homestand as the Jackrabbits and Jays battle on March 20.
The I-80 rivalry continues this season, with the first game between the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Bluejays on April 9 at 6:30 pm at Haymarket Park in Lincoln. Nebraska took 2-of-3 from the Jays last season, winning the first two. The two teams will also meet up on April 26 and May 14, both games to be played at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha.
Creighton will also play three against Nebraska Omaha this season as the Jay host the Mavericks on March 29 & 31. Creighton and UNO will play at Werner Park on March 30 at 2 p.m.
The Jays kick off MVC play on the road at Evansville (March 22-24) and also travel to face Indiana State (April 12-14), Illinois State (May 3-5) and Wichita State (May 10-12). Creighton will host Bradley (April 5-7), Southern Illinois (April 19-21), and Missouri State (May 16-18).
Creighton also hosts mid-week contests against Air Force (April 10), Kansas (April 16 & 30), Rutgers (April 27) and Oklahoma State (April 28). The Jays road schedule includes matchups at Iowa (March 27) and Kansas (April 2).
Creighton will look to claim its third consecutive NCAA appearance when the Jays travel to Normal, Ill. to participate in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament May 21-25.
