WASHINGTON – Highlighted by 20 home games, including four three-game series against BIG EAST Conference opponents, Georgetown University Head Baseball Coach Pete Wilk announced the team’s 2013 schedule today.
Georgetown finished the 2012 season with a 24-29 overall record and a 10-17 mark in the BIG EAST. Georgetown tied for eighth place in the league and missed out on an appearance in the BIG EAST Tournament by percentage points. The team’s 24 overall wins and 10 league wins were the most for the program since 2006.
The Hoyas will finish out their fall schedule on Sunday, Oct. 21, with an exhibition game against the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va.
Georgetown will open the 2013 regular season on Friday, Feb. 15 (4 p.m.), on the road at Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C at 4 p.m. The Hoyas will then stay in Spartanburg, S.C. to play UNC-Asheville on Saturday, Feb. 16 (noon), and USC-Upstate on Sunday, Feb. 17 (1 p.m.).
The team then travels to Davidson, N.C. from Friday, Feb. 22 to Sunday, Feb. 24, for three games in the Davidson Tournament. Opponents and times are to be announced.
The Blue & Gray will open up their home schedule at Shirley Povich Field on Wednesday, Feb. 27 (3 p.m.) against George Mason before heading south for their annual spring break trip in Florida. This year the Hoyas will be competing in the Snowbird Baseball Classic in Port Charlotte, Fla. from Saturday, March 2, to Sunday, March 10. The team will play eight games in the nine-day stretch against the likes of Air Force, Michigan, Valparaiso, Toledo, previous BIG EAST foe West Virginia, Chicago St., Iowa, and Central Michigan.
Following the week in Florida, Georgetown will return to Shirley Povich Field for a four-game homestand. First the Hoyas will play a midweek contest against University of Maryland-Baltimore County on Wednesday, March 13 (3 p.m.), and then a three-game series against Princeton March 15-17.
The team will then be on the road for two mid-week contests the following week, first at George Washington on Tuesday, March 19 (3 p.m.), and then at University of Maryland-Eastern Shore on Wednesday, March 20 (3 p.m.).
The Hoyas begin BIG EAST Conference play on the road against Connecticut in Storrs, Conn. March 22-24. The Blue & Gray will return home the next weekend, where they will host South Florida at Shirley Povich Field on March 28-30.
With West Virginia’s departure to the BIG 12, Georgetown will head west for the first time since the 2006 season, and play a three game series against Saint Mary’s in Moraga, California on April 5-7.
Following a home mid-week contest against George Washington on Tuesday, April 9 (3 p.m.), the Hoyas will continue BIG EAST Conference play with a three-game home series against St. John’s on April 12-14.
The Blue & Gray will hit the road the following week including a trip to Coppin State on Wednesday, April 24 (6 p.m.), then the Hoyas will travel to Louisville, Ky. for a BIG EAST Conference series against the Cardinals on April 26-28.
After home mid-week contests against University of Maryland-Eastern Shore on Tuesday, April 30 (7 p.m.) and Coppin State on Wednesday, May 1 (7 p.m.), Georgetown will host Pittsburgh in a BIG EAST Conference series at Shirley Povich Field May 3-5.
The Hoyas will close out the 2013 regular season with BIG EAST Conference series, first at Rutgers May 11-12, and then a home three game set against Villanova May 16-18.
The 2013 BIG EAST Conference Tournament runs from May 22-26, at Bright House Field in Clearwater, Fla. The champion will receive an automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA Tournament.
