WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth University Baseball Head Coach Dean Ehehalt has announced the hiring of George Brown to his coaching staff as the team’s pitching coach. Brown joins the Hawks following a highly-successful amateur and professional pitching career. Brown’s four-year stint at St. John’s was punctuated with Big East Pitcher of the Year honors as a senior in addition to several other honors. His success at St. John’s resulted in being drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 27th Round of the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft.

“George was a standout pitcher at St. John’s and learned from arguably one of the best pitching coaches in the country in Scott Brown,” said Ehehalt. “His experience collegiately and professionally along with his coaching stops have allowed George to establish a very sound pitching philosophy.”

Brown played from 2008-11 in the Cardinals organization, reaching High Class A Palm Beach. In his senior season at St. John’s, he was named a semifinalist for the prestigious Golden Spikes Award and the Dick Howser National Player of the Year honors. Brown was also selected Second Team All-American by Louisville Slugger, Pro-Line/National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and Ping!Baseball (now College Baseball Lineup). He was named National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) District II Player of the Year, while also picking up an All-Big East First Team selection.

Brown posted a 22-3 career record for the Red Storm and competed in three NCAA Regionals in 2005, 2007 and 2008. In addition to his on-field accolades, he also performed in the classroom, being named an ESPN/College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Second Team Academic All-American.

“George will be an outstanding coach for us and our players will benefit greatly with him on staff,” said Ehehalt. “I am very confident George will do an outstanding job both on the field and on the recruiting trails.”

Prior to arriving in West Long Branch, Brown also picked up coaching experience with the Riverhead Tomcats of the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League in 2011 and served one year as Pitching Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Siena College in 2011-12.
