WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW head baseball coach Mark Scalf has announced the 2013 schedule for the Seahawks, one that includes 32 home games including contests against College World Series participants Kent State and Stony Brook.
Included in that total of 32 games at Brooks Field are nine games against teams that played in the NCAA tournament. The Seahawks will play a total of 14 games against 2012 NCAA participants including College of Charleston, San Diego, Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, NC State and UNC Chapel Hill.
The Seahawks open the season with 14 their first 16 games at Brooks Field.
In Colonial Athletic Association play, the Seahawks open at James Madison on March 15 and host Georgia State the following week on March 22 to open the home conference slate. In a rematch of the 2012 CAA Championship, UNCW hosts Delaware on Apr. 12-14.
Kent State and Stony Brook made magical runs to Omaha by winning the Gary and Coral Cables Regionals, respectively. KSU then bounced Oregon in three games in Eugene, Ore., while USB eliminated Louisiana State, also in three games, in Baton Rouge. NC State, meanwhile, eliminated the Seahawks in the Raleigh Regional before ending Vanderbilt’s season. The Wolfpack was then knocked out in the Gainesville Super Regional by Florida.
UNCW will also face off with Lehigh, Elon, Davidson, Charleston Southern and VCU in non-conference games.
