UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond Spiders head baseball coach Mark McQueen announced the Spiders’ 2013 schedule on Friday. The 55-game slate includes 33 home games at Pitt Field, while the 22-game road schedule is highlighted by a trip to Jacksonville.
“I’m excited about our schedule this season,” coach McQueen said. “Big East member Rutgers and Jacksonville University out of the Atlantic Sun headline a competitive non-conference weekend schedule. Once again, midweek dates will be very strong with games against in-state rivals Virginia, William & Mary, Old Dominion, George Mason and VMI.”
McQueen continued, “The Atlantic 10 schedule this season will be tough, with four home series against Charlotte, Temple, Saint Louis and Saint Joseph’s. On the road, three-game sets versus La Salle, George Washington, Fordham and VCU will be challenging. Thankfully, 20 of the first 25 games this year are at Pitt Field so hopefully we can get off to a fast start.”
The 2013 Spider baseball schedule gets started with a Valentine’s Day doubleheader at Pitt Field against Bucknell at 12 p.m. Along with hosting the Bison for a three-game set in Richmond, the Spiders will also play host to Wagner (Mar. 1-3), Quinnipiac (Mar. 8-10), Rutgers (Mar. 15-17) and Northeastern (Apr. 12-14) at Pitt Field. The Spiders will play one non-conference series away from home in 2013, traveling south to face Jacksonville on February 22-24.
Also in non-conference action, Richmond will play home-and-home midweek games against VMI, Old Dominion, Coppin State, Longwood, George Mason and William & Mary. The Spiders will also play one game at Virginia on April 23.
In Atlantic 10 conference action, Richmond will play host to Charlotte (Mar. 22-24), Saint Joseph’s (Apr. 19-21), Saint Louis (Apr. 26-28) and Temple (May 3-5) at Pitt Field. Last season, the Spiders posted a record of 17-12 in Richmond, including a 7-5 mark in league action.
Along with the four conference series the Spiders will play at home, Richmond will hit the road to play at La Salle (Mar. 29-31), at George Washington (Apr. 5-7) and at Fordham (May 10-12). The Spiders will end the regular season at new-conference rival VCU on May 16-18. The Rams, who joined the Atlantic 10 this year, will host Richmond for three games at The Diamond.
