MONROE, La. – After guiding the ULM baseball team to its first NCAA regional appearance in 12 years, head coach Jeff Schexnaider has been rewarded with a three-year contract extension. The agreement, which will run through the 2015 season, is pending approval by the ULM Athletic Foundation Board of Trustees and the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors.
Coach Schexnaider, a 1987 graduate of ULM, has been at the helm of the Warhawk baseball program for the last six seasons. During his tenure as head coach, he has guided the Warhawks to a pair of Sun Belt Championships (2008 & 2012).
“I am excited about having the opportunity to continue to coach at the university that has done so much for me and my family,” said Schexnaider. “I appreciate Bobby Staub and Dr. Nick Bruno for having the confidence in me to continue to lead the ULM baseball program. I look forward to working hard with the Warhawk baseball team as we strive to have continued success.”
The Warhawks defeated Arkansas State, 4-2, in the Sun Belt Championship game to advance to the 2012 NCAA Tournament (Baton Rouge Regional). ULM went toe-to-toe with host LSU and picked up a win over Belmont before concluding its season at 32-30 with a loss to Oregon State.
“This past season was special in many ways from winning the conference tournament championship and participating in the NCAA regional to breaking our single-season attendance mark which ranked in the top 40 nationally,” said Director of Athletics, Bobby Staub. “We appreciate Coach Schexnaider’s leadership both on and off the field as well as his vision for this program.”
