WASHINGTON – The George Washington University Director of Athletics and Recreation Patrick Nero has announced that Tom Sheridan has been named associate head baseball coach and will lead the program in an interim capacity into the fall 2012 semester.

The Athletics Department expects to announce the baseball program’s new head coach in the fall.

Sheridan has spent the last 25 years as head baseball coach at the University of Mary Washington, where he also serves as an assistant athletic director. Since launching the UMW baseball program in 1988, Sheridan has amassed 579 victories, a total which ranks 40th all-time in NCAA Division III history, and helped the Eagles to 10 conference championships and 11 NCAA Tournament appearances. Prior to his tenure at UMW, Sheridan spent six seasons as an assistant at James Madison from 1982-87, aiding the Dukes to 202 victories and five postseason appearances, including a berth in the 1983 College World Series.
