DURHAM, N.C. – Duke head baseball coach Chris Pollard has announced the addition of Andrew See to the Blue Devil staff. See will serve as an assistant coach working primarily with the Blue Devil pitching staff.
“I am excited that Andrew has accepted the pitching coach position at Duke,” said Pollard. “Andrew did a terrific job on the staff at Appalachian State from 2004-06, and was directly involved in the recruitment of nine players in those two recruiting classes that went on to play professional baseball. The job that he has done as pitching coach, recruiting coordinator and associate head coach over the last six years at Ohio University speaks for itself.”
See joins the Blue Devils after six seasons as pitching coach/recruiting coordinator at Ohio University. This past season, the Bobcats ranked second in the Mid-American Conference with a 3.73 team ERA. During the 2010 campaign, See’s pitching corps recorded 348 strikeouts, the fifth-highest total in the MAC, while 2009 saw the Bobcats finish third in the league with 29 wins as senior Chris Rigo took home first team All-MAC honors.
In 2008, Ohio totaled 267 strikeouts, good for fourth in the conference. Under See’s guidance, junior Zach Elmer posted a 3.93 ERA to rank sixth in the MAC, while Rigo tied for second in the league with 77 strikeouts. In See’s first season at Ohio, two Bobcat hurlers finished in the top-20 in the MAC in regular season ERA, including Rigo who also finished third in the conference in complete games. In addition, junior Andrew Shisila posted a team-best 2.26 ERA working primarily out of the bullpen, and did not allow a run his final 14.1 innings pitched.
After one season as assistant coach at the University of North Carolina – Greensboro, See served as the recruiting coordinator and assistant coach at Appalachian State in 2005 and 2006. He also was the head coach of the Southern Ohio Copperheads, who compete in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate league, during the summer of 2005.
See got his coaching start as an undergraduate student assistant at Ohio during the offseason prior to the 2002 campaign, then acted as an assistant coach for the Bobcats as a graduate assistant in 2003.
“Andrew will bring a great sense of energy and enthusiasm to the Duke baseball program,” added Pollard. “I have the utmost respect for Andrew’s ability to relate to and teach top student-athletes. He is, without question, a players’ coach. Andrew and his wife, Shauna, will be great additions to the Duke Athletics family.”
See played for three seasons at Ohio from 1999-2001 after transferring from Georgia following his freshman campaign. In addition to playing centerfield and first base, he was a starting pitcher in the weekend rotation for two years, serving as the Bobcats’ closer his senior season. See owns a .350 career batting average with 33 home runs and 116 RBI, while posting a 13-12 record with a 7.20 ERA and 125 strikeouts on the mound. He earned Mideast Region and first team Mid-American Conference honors as a senior after leading the Bobcats with 17 home runs, tied for third all-time in a single season at Ohio, and a then-school record 70 RBI. He ranks second all-time at Ohio with a .647 career slugging percentage and sits in seventh place for career home runs.
A native of Adrian, Mich., See carried his career over to the professional ranks, playing for the Chillicothe Paints of the independent Frontier League for three seasons from 2001-03. Playing multiple positions, he helped the Paints to Eastern Division titles in 2001 and 2003. During his final season, he led the team with eight saves while also serving as the team’s bullpen coach.
See graduated from Ohio in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in sport industry and went on to earn a master’s degree in coaching education and athletic administration from Ohio in 2003.
