Texas Tech head coach Dan Spencer has been fired according to sources close to the situation. The school has scheduled a 10:30am press conference to announce the move on Monday. Spencer came to Texas Tech in 2008 from Oregon State where he was the associate head coach for the Beavers back to back national championships. He took the same position at Texas Tech for 2008 before taking over for retiring head coach Larry Hays before taking over as the head coach for the 2009 season. The Red Raiders went 29-26 in 2012 while going 7-17 in Big 12 play.
Sources close to the situation stated to CBD that the coaching change has to do with new athletic director Kirby Hocutt looking to add his own stamp on the Red Raiders baseball program. We should see if he looks at the Miami (FL) program which sports one of the top assistants in the country in JD Artega who has the skills to be a head coach. They could also look at Tim Tadlock who was named Associate Head Coach at Texas Tech before the season after a successful stint at Oklahoma.
