LOS ANGELES — The Pepperdine Waves pounded out 17 hits and took over first place in the West Coast Conference with a 9-3 win over Loyola Marymount Saturday afternoon at Page Stadium.
Pepperdine (32-19, 14-6) broke open a 2-2 game with a four-run sixth inning, highlighted by Joe Sever’s three-run home run to left-centerfield. Sever reached base three times, finishing with two hits, two runs and four RBI.
Sever was one of six Waves hitters to record multiple hits led by freshman Austin Davidson’s career-high four knocks. Matt Forgatch had three base hits, including a pair of rocketed doubles that clanged off the Mikos Blue Monster in left field.
Scott Frazier (7-3) picked up the win with a gritty, 131-pitch, seven-inning outing. He allowed six hits and five walks, but pitched out of multiple jams allowing only two runs (one earned) while stranding nine men on base. Trevor Megill (5-7) took the loss for LMU.
The lone bright spot for Loyola Marymount was the continued perfection this series from Matt Lowenstein. The junior centerfielder scored two runs and drove in a run while going 4-for-4 with a double and a walk. He has now reached base in all 10 of his plate appearances in the series.
