LOS ANGELES — Floyd Given hit a bases clearing double off the right-centerfield wall and bested himself with a shot over the right field wall. The outfielder affectionately known to his teammates as “Granpappy” reacehd base three times and finished 2-for-4 with four RBI to help Pepperdine defeat Loyola Marymount 6-3 Friday afternoon at Page Stadium.
The win gave Pepperdine (31-19, 13-6) a crucial West Coast Conference win that moved the Waves into a tie for first place with San Diego. With the loss, Loyola Marymount (23-25, 11-8) must now win their final five WCC games and have Pepperdine win two of three next weekend when San Diego plays in Malibu.
Jon Moscot earned the victory for the Waves. He labored in the first inning allowing two runs, but he battled his way to 6 2/3 innings pitched. Moscot gave up seven hits and walked three batters, but only allowed three earned runs. Eric Karch pitched the final 2 1/3 innings to pick up his first save of the season.
For the Lions, Matt Lowenstein reached base five times. He was a perfect 3-for-3 with a pair of walks and a pair of runs, but it wasn’t enough.
