TCU (32-16) remains at #1 for the second consecutive week. The Horned Frogs won all 3 games at Air Force in MWC play. TCU now is 1 game up on New Mexico for the MWC regular season title.

Utah Valley (39-11) extended their win streak to 32 games with a 4 game sweep at New York Tech. The Wolverines move up 4 spots to #19. To tie and or break the all time winning streak the Wolverines host Utah (13-35) Tuesday and host Northern Colorado (25-26) for 4 games starting Thursday.

MOVING UP

Louisville (35-17) slides up 3 spot to #3 with a 2-2 week. The Cardinals lost 3-2 at Vanderbilt on Tuesday before winning 2 of 3 vs St John’s in the Big East series of the year. With the series victory Louisville is 1 game behind St John’s for Big East regular season title. South Florida is also 1 game behind St John’s at 16-8 in Big East. St John’s ends the season vs Seton Hall (31-21), Louisville ends season at Pittsburgh (26-24) and South Florida ends season at West Virginia (20-31). Louisville holds the tie breaker over both St John’s and South Florida.

Sam Houston St (34-16) climbs 6 places to #4 after winning 2 of 3 vs SE Louisiana and winning the regular season championship in the Southland. At 22-8 the Bearkats have a 4 game lead over 2nd place SE Louisiana with one weekend left.

Indiana St (40-12) enters the top 10 for first time in 2012 at #6. The Sycamores went 4-0 on week with win mid week at SIU Edwardsville and sweep at Southern Illinois in MVC play. Indiana St has a 1 ½ game lead over Missouri St in the MVC. Indiana St hosts Missouri St this weekend to finish the regular season.

Appalachian St (36-12) moves up 6 to #8 after winning 2 of 3 at Samford in SoCon play. The Mountaineers hold a 1 game lead over College of Charleston for the regular season title and hold the tie breaker over CofC. App St travels to rival Western Carolina to finish the season.

Stetson (34-18) gets back on track moving up 7 places to #12. The Hatters split two games vs Florida St mid week (L 9-1, W 6-5) and swept ETSU on the road in A-Sun play. Stetson enters the final weekend 1 ½ games behind SC Upstate for A-Sun regular season title.

FALLING

San Diego (38-13) slides down 2 places to #5. The week started out good with a 4-1 win vs UC Irvine but ended losing 2 of 3 at home to Loyola-Marymount including Fridays 13-1 loss. The Toreros have only lost 3 weekend series all year but 2 of the 3 have come in the last 3 weeks. San Diego has a ½ game lead over Pepperdine in WCC and takes this weekend off before ending the season at Pepperdine May 25-27.

Missouri St (35-17) falls 7 spots to #11 with a 1-3 week. The week started with a 10-5 loss at Missouri and ended losing 2 of 3 at home to Evansville. On the weekend Missouri St scored only 3 runs and only gave up 4 runs (Winning Friday 2-0, losing 3-1 Saturday and 1-0 Sunday). The Bears travel to Indiana St down 1 ½ games and needing a sweep to win the regular season title.

College of Charleston (34-17) drops 7 spots to #16 with a 3-2 week. The Cougars picked up a 4-2 win at Clemson on Monday, which was their first ever win (1-17) over the Tigers, and beat Savannah St 12-0 Tuesday. On the weekend the Cougars stepped out of SoCon play and hosted UNC-Asheville losing 2 of 3. The series loss was a big hit to their at-large chances but they are still just a game behind App St for the SoCon regular season title. CofC hosts Coastal Carolina Tuesday before traveling to UNCG (24-24) to finish the regular season.

New Mexico St (31-19) continues their fall and drops 4 places to #17 losing 2 of 3 at home to Fresno St. The Aggies, once a “lock” for an at-large bid, snapped their 7 game losing streak with a 2-1 win over Fresno St on Saturday but lost again 14-7 Sunday. New Mexico St has lost 8 of 9 and sits tied with Hawaii in 3rd place in the WAC.

Gonzaga (29-20) also continues to fall. The Bulldogs drop 3 to #18 after being swept by Arizona St. Also after being a “lock” for an at-large bid the Bulldogs are 3-11 since April 20th and are now in 6th place in the WCC 3 ½ games behind first place San Diego.

How about the MAAC? Any chance one of these teams going to make some noise?

MM25RSN May 15, 2012 - 1:12 pm

Manhattan has a chance to make some noise if it wins the tourney. With RHP John Soldinger throwing the opening game they most certainly can knock off a #1 seed in round 1. Manhattan started off 1-14 and has gone 25-10 since with 3 of those loses at TCU.

WHEN WILL YOU GUYS RANK AUSTIN PEAY STATE 32-19 17-6 CONF

MM25RSN May 15, 2012 - 1:05 pm

Austin Peay is a solid club but havent put together week or month to get in. There record is similar to Kent St but Kent St is 21-3 in conference and has gone 4-5 vs top 50 clubs according to warrennolan. Austin Peay has not played game vs top 50.

It could have been a coin flip this week with Kent St(3-0), Army(2-0), Stony Brook(3-0), Illinois St(3-0), St Louis(4-0), South Florida(3-0), Wright St(4-0), Wichita St(3-0), Campbell(4-1), Austin Peay(4-1), Mercer(4-1).

South Florida and Wichita St had probably the best weeks. South Florida swept UCONN but had lost their previous 3 weekend series. Wichita St swept a good Bradley club but was coming off series loss at Indiana St so i decided to reward Kent St for winning for almost 2 months though it has been vs not as good opponents.

I do not use RPI to decided where to place teams but with this weeks clutter of clubs i did look at it a little more to help decide between a couple few teams. Not the teams RPI but some of its opponents.

TxWolf May 17, 2012 - 11:58 am

Dallas Baptist – higher RPI than TCU and have won the last five games vs Frogs. The last two in Ft Worth. – Just an observation.
