LOS ANGELES — Loyola Marymount manufactured nine runs on 11 hits in a 9-4 win over St. Mary’s to open the West Coast Conference schedule Friday afternoon at Page Stadium.
Colin Welmon moved to 4-1 on the season with eight effective innings while Matt Lowenstein and Colton Plaia both delivered two singles and an extra base hit. Plaia’s extra base knock was a two-run homer, helping him finish the game with five RBI.
After the game, we chatted with Loyola Marymount head coach Jason Gill. Gill talked about the tremendous job Welmon has done as a freshman thrust into the Friday starter role. He also discussed recent adjustments both Lowenstein and Plaia have made at the plate and how that’s helped turn the offense around:
