I don’t think its a coincidence that the Rams put 5 runs on the board this past Friday against Charlotte. A week ago today, our first home game, we held a special ceremony at Bill Beck Field retiring number 5 in honor of our teammate Joey Ciancola. His mom, Michele, and sister, Lindsay, along with several other members of Joey’s family and friends came out onto the field in honor of number 5.
It was awesome to have Joey’s family in attendance this past weekend, a game we have been looking forward to for a long time. I can’t tell you how bad my teammates wanted to get a W for them in our home opener. We did just that, scoring 5 runs, just another sign that Joey is on the field with us. Chris Pickering had a great start on the hill on Friday followed by yet another strong bullpen performance out of Joe Landi and Mike Bradstreet.
On Sunday, it was a pleasure to watch Sean Furney go out in his first career start and go eight innings while allowing just one run. We needed someone to step up for this ball club on Sunday and he was the guy who did it. Once again, in our second win of the weekend against Charlotte, we scored 5 runs.
This weekend was all about #5.
Until Next Time,
Mike Le Bel
