FULLERTON, Calif. — Behind two impressive starting pitching performances, the Cal State Fullerton Titans defeated rival Long Beach State with a pair of come-from-behind 2-1 wins Friday at Goodwin Field.
Dylan Floro won the first game pitching eight innings, allowing one run on seven hits while striking out five. In the second game, the win went to freshman Kenny Mathews, who allowed five hits and one run in 7 2/3 innings.
After the game, I talked with Mathews and Fullerton (12-6) head coach Rick Vanderhook. Vanderhook discussed Mathews’ rapid development this season and the fight his team has shown this season. He also talked about how the team turned things around at Texas A&M last weekend:
