This week was a very exciting time to be associated with the baseball team here at Western Illinois. We jumped on the bus and traveled the 13 hours to Athens, Ga. to take on a perennial SEC powerhouse Georgia. Although we lost the first two games in gut-wrenching fashion, we were able to come back on Sunday and put up a good showing in a 7-4 victory.
The starting pitchers definitely stole the spotlight as they continued to battle and show poise and confidence against one of the better offensive teams we are sure to see all year. This trip provided us the opportunity to see how we stack up with some of the nation’s best and to get an opportunity to play in front of one of the country’s most passionate (and hostile) fan bases.
This week we prepare for another big challenge as we travel to Western Kentucky to take on the Hilltoppers for a three-game set. We are all very excited to get back out on the field and continue to build on the confidence that was established this past weekend. Hopefully, we will continue to get quality starting pitching and enough timely hitting to pull out some big wins over a very good opponent. If we are able to maintain a sound approach and a focus on one pitch at a time, we believe we will continue to get better every day and the W’s will take care of themselves.
IT’S A GREAT DAY TO BE A LEATHERNECK!!!!
