Stetson (9-2) stays at #1 for the 3rd week in row to start 2012 going 3-1 on week. (1-0 at Bethune-Cookman; 1-0 Penn; 0-1 S. Illinois; 1-0 Georgia St)………Louisville (8-3) and TCU (4-6) each slide down one spot but not because of their play. Another club just had a very good week. Louisville slides to #3 even after winning 2 of 3 from Pepperdine and TCU goes to #4 after taking 2 of 3 from Oklahoma St.
A few teams at the bottom of rankings continued to struggle and paved the way for teams who are not struggling to take their place.
RISING
- Texas St (8-3) jumps to #2 with a 4-0 week. The Bobcats did not give up a run the entire week beating TCU 1-0 Tuesday and sweeping Notre Dame by scores of 6-0, 6-0, and 5-0. Texas St has not given up a run since their 6-1 win at Houston last Saturday a total of 5 games.
- Troy (6-4) slides up 4 spots to #5. The Trojans beat Samford 13-6 mid week and took 2 of 3 at Bethune-Cookman including a 26-3 win Saturday and scoring 2 in the top of 9th on Sunday for a 7-6 win and series win.
- Purdue (8-1) continues its very impressive start to 2012 moving up 7 spots and into the top 10 at #6 after a 3-0 week. The Boilermakers traveled to Auburn for another tournament and beat host Auburn 9-8 Friday, Southern Miss 10-9 Saturday and Charleston Southern 5-2 on Sunday.
- Missouri State (9-3) jumps up 10 spots to #7 going 4-0 on the road. The Bears picked up a 7-1 win at Oklahoma St on Wednesday before sweeping Northwestern St 3 games.
- Gonzaga (10-0) remained undefeated with a 3-0 (1-0 vs Louisiana-Lafayette; 1-0 at UTSA;1-0 vs Kansas) week and also jumped up 10 spots to #8.
- Appalachian St (9-2) stayed on roll going 5-0 on week and move up one spot to #19 outscoring NC A&T and Rider 58-18 in the 5 games.
- Creighton (5-3) moves to #21 winning 2 of 3 at UC Davis. The Bluejays have been on left coast for a couple weeks and will stay one more week with single games at California and Sacramento St before finishing trip with 3 games at Pacific.
FALLING
- College of Charleston (7-3) drops 3 spots to #9 with a 2-2 week. The Cougars took a perfect game into the 9th inning on Tuesday in their 7-0 win at Jacksonville but opened SOCON play this weekend losing 2 of 3 at home to Elon. CofC took game one Friday 7-1 and rain made them play double header on Sunday. Elon took game 1 on Sunday 4-2 and won the series with a 3-2 win in 10 innings.
- Kent St (5-4) slides 5 spots to #12 losing 2 of 3 at Western Kentucky.
- Florida Atlantic (8-4) also slides 5 spots to #13 with 2-3 week. The Owls lost 10-5 at Miami on Wednesday and split 4 games with Princeton.
- Samford (7-4) drops 5 spots to #15 losing at Troy 13-6 Tuesday and splitting 2 games with Penn St.
- Georgia Southern (6-6) drops 11 spots to #16 with a 1-4 week. GSU lost 12-4 at home to Mercer Tuesday and lost 3 of 4 to North Florida. North Florida touched up GSU’s RHP Chris Beck for 9 hits and 7 runs in 6 innings in Fridays 7-4 win. The Eagles beat North Florida 9-5 on Sunday to snap a 5 game losing streak going back to last Sunday.
- Stony Brook (4-3) slides 2 spots to #17 after getting swept at East Carolina. The Seawolves lost the 3 games by a total of just 3 runs (Friday 1-0, Saturday 2-1, and Sunday 4-3).
OUT
- #19 St Johns (3-6) drops out of top 25 with a 1-2 week. The Red Storm lost at UNC, beat UNCW and lost to Illinois.
- #21 Fresno St (5-7) went 1-3 on week losing to UC Santa Barbra and losing 2 of 3 to Stanford.
- #23 Coastal Carolina (4-4) drop out after getting just 2 games in due to weather. Coastal beat Pitt and lost to Illinois. The Chanticleers are off to a rough start from what we are accustomed to and should get things going now that their schedule starts to soften up a little.
IN
- After struggling through 2011 finishing 20-31 and dropping 2 of 3 at Sam Houston St, San Diego (9-3) looks like they are back on a roll. The Toreros enter the poll in week 3 at #20 after a 4-1 week picking up wins at UC Riverside, vs Cal Poly, vs Cal St Northridge, and Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
- Liberty (12-1) has the most wins in Division 1 through 3 weeks of season and enter the rankings at #22. No question the Flames picked up their biggest win of the year this past week a 8-0 win at Virginia. The Flames will look to continue their strong play this weekend with St Johns coming to town.
- Hawaii (9-4) enters the rankings at #25 taking 3 of 4 from Wichita St.

It was not easy putting 10 bubble teams this week. The bubble list is getting short of teams that should be included. Some of these guys need to pick it up.
UT Arlington (9-3) beat Texas two weeks ago, beat OU last week and went 3-1 last weekend. How are they only a “bubble”?
UT-Arlington is off to a very good start. Last week Gonzaga, App St and SE Louisiana got in and a couple others had really good weeks. This week UT-Arlington went 4-1 with win over Oklahoma. However they got run ruled 15-1 by Houston Baptist on Sunday. That happening on Sunday did not help their case.
Their case? They’ve beaten two ranked teams. One fluke against a team they’ve already beaten 3 times this season shouldn’t keep them off the list. Let’s discuss Stony Brook’s wins and losses. Of course, UT-Arlington plays Wichita St twice this week and then Texas St 3 times over the weekend…..I might be eating those words come next Monday!
The last spot went to Hawaii this week after they beat Wichita St 3 of 4 games. UT-Arlington was right there with them but i gave Hawaii the edge. If UT-Arlington can go 3-2 or better this week then they need to be in rankings no question about it. (2) at Wichita St and opening Southland series vs Texas St. I really like the Southland. It is one of the top Mid-Major conference’s. Id love to see maybe a SOCON/Southland Challenge. Now that would be great.
Texas St at Georgia Southern
CofC at SE Louisiana
UT-Arlington at Elon
WCU at Sam Houston St
Texas A&M CC at Citadel
Samford at UTSA
Keep hammering me it keeps me on my toes!!!! 🙂
Oops! Don’t mean to hammer. I like that Challenge, though! Wouldn’t that be fun?
UTA has it’s hands full schedule-wise. After Wichita St and Texas St they play, in order: Baylor, Lamar (conf), Dallas Baptist, SE La (conf), and TCU. I wonder if I shouldn’t just shut up and see if they get through that gauntlet.
LOL I like a nice debate.
That is a rough schedule. Lamar is not playing too well but they usually are very solid. Yeah dont jynx you boys you might have done them in. 🙂
Heffley for WCU is starting to heat up he just hit a double vs Duke and is 3 for 3 today. WCU up 9-2 in 6th. They are starting to play better but still only have a win vs UGA to show for it.
Well you certainly did jynx your boys tonight.
Yep…couldn’t hold a 4-0 lead.
I was hoping you wouldn’t notice that!
I did not see that they blew a 4-0 lead!! OUCH. If they can win tomorrow all will be fine. Would love to take 2 at Wichita St but im sure they would not mind a split either…especially now.
Since you posted that UT-Arlington has lost 3 in row. Im sure you are well aware of that LOL
I forgot to talk about Stony Brook. Stony Brook was in preseason top 25 at #17. They went 4-0 their first week and moved up a couple spots. Last week they played series at ECU and lost 1-0, 2-1 and 4-3 at total of 3 runs. They are not going to drop from #15 out of poll because of 3 one run games at ECU. Stony Brook is pretty dam good.
SE Louisiana will be hard to beat in S’Land. Texas St and SLU top two by a large margin in the conference. Both teams will be in an NCAA Regional. SLU pitching much better than their 38-22 year last year….Off to 9-2 Start….GO LIONS!!
Both clubs are off to very good start again. Hopefully both can continue and get in a regional.
Upstate now 10-1 after beating a decent Valparasio team that beat Arkansas
USC Upstate now 12 and 1 beating The Citadel and Charleston Southern on the road. Only loss is to KY who is 13 and 0.
Northeastern had a pretty good week after sweeping Bowling Green, St Bonnies, and Georgetown. Will be interesting to see how they do with a seemingly weak CAA (what happened to JMU???)
St. Bonnie and Georgetown are consistently bottom feeders in their conferences. NU needs to get competitive in the CAA soon! Sent on the Sprint® Now Network from my BlackBerry®
I think baseball at Northeastern will be seeing a lot of money from football being dropped. They will be maxed out in scholarships next season with a lot of talented young guys.

James Madison lost a ton of offense from last year and lost DJ Brown 9-1, 4.00, 96.2, 4 SV, 8 GS to injury before season.
