FULLERTON, Calif. — I caught up with centerfielder/closer Michael Lorenzen after Cal State Fullerton’s series-clinching 11-10 victory against Texas Christian Sunday afternoon.
Lorenzen struggled at the plate the first two games going 0-for-10 with seven strikeouts, swinging at a number of sliders in the dirt, unable to lay off. The sophomore was able to make an adjustment on Sunday going 4-for-5 with three RBI and two runs.
Despite his offensive struggles, Lorenzen played a key role in Saturday’s 4-2 win as well. In the ninth inning, he came into close out the game, but made things interesting by loading the bases with a pair of walks and a single. He still battled to get the save by striking out a TCU batter and then getting a game-ending double play, which he celebrated with a primal scream and a hearty fist pump.
