LOS ANGELES — For the second straight game, USC dominated Akron, winning 10-2 Saturday afternoon at Dedeaux Field. The Trojans moved to 6-0 on the season while the Zips dropped to 0-5.
Ben Mount led the way on the mound for USC, pitching seven innings to pick up his first win of the season. The only runs Mount allowed came on a long home run by Joey Havrilak that ricocheted off the parking structure beyond the right field fence.
Not to be outdone, Trojans’ right fielder Alex Sherrod also blasted a homer over the tree line and off the distant parking structure. Sherrod reached base three times, finishing with a pair of hits. Kevin Swick also reached base three times and designated hitter Brandon Garcia went 2-for-2 with two walks to boost his on base percentage to .632.
Third baseman Sam Watkins had three hits for Akron. Taking the loss for the Zips was Miles McVeigh (4 IP, 5 H, 6 ER, 4 BB)
USC will go for the series sweep at 1 PM Sunday afternoon at Dedeaux Field.
