Here we go again, tomorrow is opening day in D1 College Baseball. We couldn’t be more excited as a ball club (currently writing this on the bus) for our first series at William & Mary. The day before the season is filled with well wishes from summer coaches and teammates as well as school alumni.
The first trip of the year is quite the experience for freshman. I remember my first road trip clear as day, not getting any sleep on a 16 hour bus ride to N.C. State. The other freshman and I could not have been more excited.
This time around, we are lucky enough to have three true freshman traveling with us: Tim Caputo, Ty Sterner and Myles Diggins. Congrats to these guys – I know they can’t wait to get a taste of college baseball.
Tomorrow we will start a season dedicated to our teammate Joey Ciancola. As a team, we will play our hearts out for him every game because that is what he would do for us. I can say that practices leading upto this season have just felt different than in years past and I think Joey is a big reason why. The guys are playing inspired ball already (even if its just a bp session in the barn). We will also play for Joey’s family, especially his mother Michele Ciancola, who has been an inspiration to all of us through this tough time. We can’t wait to play in front of her our first home weekend.
Flow for Joe is going well too, for some people at least. Leading the charge right now is probably Brendan Doonan, he has flow for days.
Tomorrow is the day… Good luck to all of the college baseball teams out there!
Until next time,
Mike Le Bel
