Texas and UCLA host Alumni Games

LOS ANGELES – The UCLA baseball team earned a 13-0 victory in an exhibition contest against the UCLA Alumni Team on Saturday afternoon under sunny skies at Steele Field at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

Right-hander Nick Vander Tuig secured the victory, allowing one hit in four scoreless innings as UCLA’s starting pitcher. Vander Tuig faced the minimum 12 batters through four frames.

Playing as the visitors, the current Bruins’ ballclub scored three runs in the third inning and broke through with a nine-run sixth inning before adding one more run in the seventh.

AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas Exes got RBI singles from Kevin Keyes and Kyle Russell in the eighth inning to earn a 2-0 win over the Texas Longhorns in the annual Alumni Game as part of Fan Appreciation Day festivities at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Saturday afternoon.

The game was scoreless through seven innings before the Alumni struck for the game’s only runs. With one out, Huston Street singled to centerfield and Tant Shepherd doubled to put two runners in scoring position. With two outs, Cameron Rupp drew a walk to load the bases. Keyes singled to leftfield to plate Street for the go-ahead run and Russell added the insurance run with a single to rightfield.

The Longhorns best chance to score came in the seventh inning. Alex Silver drew a walk and Jackson Mellina was hit by a pitch to start the frame. With one out, Kirby Bellow singled to rightfield and Alex Silver was given the wave-around to home, but he was thrown out at the plate with a perfect throw from Drew Stubbs in rightfield.
