CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Senior catcher Peter O’Brien has been approved by the NCAA to compete for the Hurricanes during the upcoming 2012 baseball season.
“Needless to say, Peter is very excited, the players are excited, and the coaching staff is excited to have a guy of his quality,” Head Coach Jim Morris said.
O’Brien transferred to Miami after an impressive three-year career with the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats. The Miami Gardens, Fla. native finished his junior campaign with a .304 batting average, 14 home runs and 69 runs batted in. O’Brien, who was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Year in 2010, earned Freshman All-American honors from Louisville Slugger in 2009.
“We expect him to be a great addition to our team,” Coach Morris said. “We’re ready to get this season started.”

HUGE Addition for Miami! O’Brien will anchor the lineup and call a great game behind the plate. An already talented pitching staff now has an All-American receiver to throw to. Canes should get back to Omaha for first time since 2008.
