Hi Everyone,

First off, Happy Holidays to everyone. These past couple weeks have been a great time simply relaxing with family and friends. I hope everyone got to enjoy it as much as I did.

That being said, putting the holidays behind us simply means that we’re one step closer to the start of the 2012 college baseball season. February 17th is right around the corner and I know that my teammates are all itching to get back to Rhody to continue preparing for the season.

I also want to say how proud I am of my teammates for their hard work – both on and off the field – during the fall semester. We certainly faced adversity and are inspired to work harder than ever in honor of our fallen teammate, Joey Ciancola.

We recently selected our four captains: Anthony Pisani, Chris Pickering, Dan Haverstick and myself. I couldn’t be more excited to lead this ball club along with these three guys – true competitors and leaders.

The 2012 Rhody baseball schedule is officially online (Full 2012 URI Baseball Schedule). Coach Foster has made sure that it is both challenging and exciting as we, yet again, travel to take on some of the nation’s top teams. He is always pushing us to get the most of our ability and each year the schedule he puts together shows the confidence that he has in our ball club.

Speaking of the schedule, URI and UMass will not face off this year… can’t say how disappointed both teams are about this! There’s nothing like that weekend playing UMass. Its a fierce rivalry but also a chance for most of us to play against a number of close friends. For me personally, it provides the opportunity to play against Glen Misho and Tom Conley, two Quincy natives, former teammates and great friends of mine.

Lastly, I want to mention that we are in the middle of our biggest fundraising event of the year – a raffle where the winner will have their choice of $10,000 cash or a pair of season tickets for the Boston Red Sox 2012 season. For more information or to purchase a ticket, please click here.

Happy New Year,
Mike Le Bel
