CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College baseball team released the 2012 schedule on Tuesday. For a second year in a row, the 56-game slate begins with a tournament in Myrtle Beach and concludes with nine of the last 13 games at home.
In 2012, the Eagles will face 11 teams from the 2011 NCAA Tournament, including two (North Carolina and Virginia) that advanced to the College World Series and two (Connecticut and Florida State) that went on to Super Regionals.
BC opens the season with the Caravelle Resort Tournament hosted by Coastal Carolina. The Eagles will ACC-foe Virginia, along with James Madison and host Coastal Carolina. They will then travel to Florida to play UCF in Orlando the following weekend.
The annual exhibition against the Boston Red Sox is set for Saturday, March 3 at 7 p.m. The teams have played at the Red Sox’s spring training site every year since 1993. This year will mark the 22nd meeting with the Red Sox.
BC begins the conference schedule on the road in Coral Gables, Fla., against Miami on March 9. Last season, the Hurricanes swept the Eagles in a doubleheader in Chestnut Hill. The Eagles also travel to Clemson (March 16-18), Virginia Tech (April 6-8), NC State (April 20-22) and North Carolina (May 4-6). In 2011, BC took two-of-three in a home series from the Hokies.
The maroon and gold open the home portion of its schedule on March 20 against in-state rival Holy Cross. The Eagles will host Georgia Tech (March 23-25), Maryland (March 30-April 1), Florida State (April 13-15) and Duke (May 17-19) at Shea Field this season. Last year, BC won two of the three games against the Blue Devils and the Terrapins in the conference matchups.
The Beanpot will begin on April 10 as BC will face Harvard in the opener, a rematch of last year’s championship, in which the Eagles won, 8-0. All games will be played at LeLacheur Park, home of the Lowell Spinners.
The 2012 ACC Championship is scheduled for May 23-27 and will be held at at NewBridge Bank Park in Greensboro, N.C.
