GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG will play 55 regular season games in 2012, including the first 16 at the UNCG Baseball Stadium, coach Mike Gaski announced on Wednesday.
The Spartans will open their season on Feb. 17 as they host Delaware State for a three-game series before hosting UNC Asheville on Feb. 21. Penn State will then come to town on Feb. 24 for a weekend series.
The team will kick off the month of March by hosting Radford for a three-game series beginning on March 2 before a pair of midweek contests on March 6-7 against Eastern Kentucky.
UNCG will open Southern Conference action on March 9-11 as it plays Samford at home before wrapping up its 16-game homestand versus North Carolina on March 13.
The Spartans will hit the road for the first time all year on March 16 when they travel to Georgia Southern for a weekend series. After returning home for a midweek contest against Princeton (March 21), the team will hit the road to face Western Carolina on March 23-25.
UNCG will follow with its annual game against North Carolina A&T at NewBridge Bank Park, home of the Greensboro Grasshoppers, on March 28. Furman will then come to town on March 30 for another three-game series.
The team will hit the road for its first midweek away game on April 3 as the Spartans travel to ACC foe Wake Forest. The Spartans will step out of Southern Conference play on April 5-7 as they host Presbyterian for a weekend series.
From April 10-15 UNCG will play on the road as it makes a midweek trip to Duke on April 10 before heading to Charleston, S.C. to face The Citadel on April 13-15.
The Spartans will return home to host Wake Forest on April 17 and Davidson will come to town that weekend for a three-game series. The team will then travel to North Carolina on April 24 before making the short trip to rival Elon on April 27-29.
UNCG will host North Carolina A&T at the UNCG Baseball Stadium on May 2 before making its final weekend road trip of the season to Appalachian State on May 4-6.
The Spartans wrap up the season with seven of their final eight games at home. They will play Duke on May 9 and Wofford on May 11-13 before a trip to NC State on May 15. The team will wrap up the regular season by hosting College of Charleston on May 17-19.
This season, the Southern Conference Championship will be played in Greenville, S.C. on May 23-27.
Last season, the Spartans went 34-20 overall and finished in second place in the Southern Conference standings after posting a 22-8 mark in league games.
