The University of New Mexico released its 2012 baseball schedule on Wednesday. The Mountain West conference member will play 32 home games this season at Isotopes Park as a part of a 56 game regular season schedule.
The Lobos will start play February 17th with a home series against Nevada. Their mettle will be tested three weeks into the season, when they host 2011 powerhouse Oklahoma on March 2nd.
New Mexico will play four teams that made the 2011 NCAA postseason, including the team that defeated them in the Regionals, Arizona State. The Lobos will seek revenge on April 9-10 at Isotope Park.
Seeking another shot at the NCAA postseason, New Mexico is eager to see what they can do against a competitive schedule. Said head coach Ray Birmingham in a press release:
“The only way that I know how to make diamonds is to put coal under pressure, and that’s what we’re going to do. This team (the Lobos) is light years ahead of where they were last year.”
