Stockton, Calif. – Fifty games against California opponents, six contests with Pac-12 foes, home series with Creighton and Brown, and road meetings with Kansas State and Gonzaga before the 24-game Big West slate highlight the 2012 Pacific baseball schedule, released today by head coach Ed Sprague.
“We are excited about the upcoming season,” Sprague said. “We feel we have once again put together a very competitive non-conference schedule. College baseball on the west coast is in my opinion the best in the country and we will challenge ourselves week in and week out starting with last year’s College World Series team Cal. I think it is great for our fans that local Northern California teams like Stanford, Santa Clara and USF come out to Klein Family Field every year. Our non-conference schedule will prepare us for the always challenging Big West Conference. The depth of our conference will be better than ever led by powerhouse Cal State Fullerton. I think the talent level will be the best of any of my years here at Pacific.”
The Tigers will face eight teams that made the NCAA Field of 64 last season: Cal, Stanford, Oregon State, Kansas State, Creighton, San Francisco, Cal State Fullerton and UC Irvine. Pacific will play host to five NCAA Regional participants for nine total games with single home games against Cal, Stanford and USF and three-game sets with Creighton and Fullerton. The Tigers will have nine road games against Stanford, Oregon State, USF (single games), two at Cal, and three-game series at Kansas State and UC Irvine.
Pacific opens the season with a three-game split series against Cal, playing in Berkeley on Feb. 17 and 19, with the home opener against the Golden Bears on Feb. 18.
The Tigers will also hold home games against Stanford (Feb. 21), Sacramento State (Feb. 28), Creighton (Mar. 9-11), Brown (Mar. 24-26), Nevada (Apr. 1), San Jose State (Apr. 5-6), San Francisco (May 8), and Santa Clara (May 15) in non-conference action.
Pacific will meet Cal (Feb. 17, 19), San Diego (Feb. 24, 26), Kansas State (Mar. 2-4), San Francisco (Mar. 6), Gonzaga (Mar. 16-18), Sac State (Mar. 20), San Jose State (Apr. 7) and Nevada (Apr. 24) in non-conference road games. The Tigers will also face Pac-12 opponent Oregon State in San Diego (Feb. 23) at USD’s campus.
Big West opponents UC Santa Barbara (Apr. 20-22), Cal State Fullerton (May 4-6), UC Riverside (May 11-13) and Cal State Northridge (May 25-27) will visit Klein Family Field, while the Tigers will face UC Irvine (Mar 30-Apr 1), UC Davis (Apr. 13-15), Cal Poly (Apr. 27-29) and Long Beach State (May 18-20) on the road.
