WICHITA, Kan. – The 2012 Wichita State baseball schedule features 15 games against 2011 NCAA Tournament teams along with 36 home games, head coach Gene Stephenson announced Oct. 24.

“Our schedule will test us early especially the opening weekend at the tournament at Texas State,” Stephenson said. “After that we travel to Oral Roberts and Hawaii and then come home to face a bunch of good teams in UT-Arlington, Tulane, ORU, Purdue, Alcorn State, Long Beach State and South Alabama. We will be well tested many times. The Valley schedule will also be difficult as many teams return a lot of players from last season.”

The Shockers begin the 2012 season in San Marcos, Texas, at the Texas State Tournament, Feb. 17-19. WSU will face host Texas State, a 2011 NCAA Tournament team, as well as Louisiana-Lafayette and Santa Clara. WSU then travels to 2011 NCAA Tourney participant Oral Roberts on Feb. 21. The Golden Eagles return the trip with a game in Wichita on March 13.

WSU returns home for a four-game series with North Dakota, Feb. 24-26 before hitting the road for four games against Hawaii in Honolulu.

The Shockers then begin a 20-game homestand during the month of March. During the homestand, WSU will face UT-Arlington (March 6-7), Tulane (March 9-11), ORU (March 13), Purdue (March 15-17), 2011 NCAA Tourney participant Alcorn State (March 20-21), Long Beach State (March 23-25), South Alabama (March 27-28), and open up Missouri Valley Conference play with Southern Illinois (March 30-April 1).

On April 3, the Shockers travel to Stillwater, Okla., to face Oklahoma State, another 2011 NCAA Tourney participant. The Cowboys make the trip to Wichita on April 17. WSU travels to 2011 NCAA Tourney participant Kansas State on April 24 and the Wildcats visit Eck Stadium on May 1.

The final two 2011 NCAA Tourney participants on WSU’s schedule are Dallas Baptist and Creighton. The Shockers face DBU on April 27-29 in Wichita and travel to CU to close out the regular-season May 17-19.

Other teams that will visit Eck Stadium in 2011 include Kansas (April 11), Missouri State (April 20-22), and Bradley (May 11-13).

Wichita State will travel to Springfield, Mo., for the 2012 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament at Hammons Park, May 22-26.
