Michigan State: Green-White Series Recap
EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan State baseball team concluded fall practice with the annual Green-White Series this past week at McLane Baseball Stadium. In a best-of-three series, the White defeated the Green, two games to one.
In game one, the White jumped out to a 1-0 series advantage with an 8-1 victory over the Green. Andrew Waszak picked up the victory after firing three innings of two-hit ball with three strikeouts, while Ryan Martin threw two scoreless innings of relief and Trevor Cousineau also provided one scoreless inning. Martin fanned five in five innings of action during the series and posted a 1.80 ERA.
Washington: Purple 8 Gold 3
SEATTLE – The Purple team beat the Gold squad, 8-3, Wednesday afternoon at Husky Ballpark to draw even at one win apiece in the best-of-three Fall World Series.
On Tuesday, the Gold won the series opener, 12-7.
Freshman first baseman Brandon Berry, who hit two homers in the losing cause in game one, went deep again for the winning squad in game two. Berry finished 2-for-3 with a double, a homer, three run scored and another batted in.
Xavier: Blue White Series Recap
CINCINNATI — The Blue team triumphed in the Xavier baseball team’s annual Blue-White Series at Hayden Field. Blue took the series 2-1 by winning the series opener and finale.
In game one, the White team scored two runs in the top of the first on three straight two-out doubles from juniors Seth Willoughby and Seth Dawes, and freshman Joe Forney. Blue scored twice in bottom of the fifth, and rallied in the sixth with two runs to seal the 4-3 win.
St. John’s: Black 9 Red 1
QUEENS, N.Y. – Brad Bellinger racked up five strikeouts in 3.0 scoreless innings, Martin Kelly went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and Black broke open the game with a six-run seventh inning to defeat Red, 9-1, in the seven-inning game one of the Intrasquad World Series. Matt Wessinger and Eric Peterson had two RBI apiece for Black, while Jeremy Baltz, Dan Bethea and Julien Plana added two hits apiece. Zach Lauricella was 2-for-2 with an RBI for Red, while Kyle Richardson was 2-for-4.
James Lomangino had two strikeouts in the top of the first inning, but gave up a three-run home run in the top of the second inning as Black jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Following a leadoff single by Bethea and a two-out bunt single by Plana, Kelly launched a three-run home run to give Black the 3-0 advantage.
Rhode Island: Keaney 8 Navy 3
KINGSTON, R.I. – Team Keaney posted an 8-3 win over Team Navy in Game One of the annual Keaney-Navy World Series, Thursday afternoon at Bill Beck Field.
