The Miami (FL) baseball program opened up fall practice on Tuesday with both Peter O’Brien and Erik Erickson getting the most attention.
O’Brien spent his first three years of college as a member of the Bethune-Cookman program. Entering last season, O’Brien was named to the CBD Top 100 countdown at 18. After the 2010 season, the Colorado Rockies selected him in the third round but didn’t sign. He also had some issues at home so he decided to transfer to Miami (FL) and appeal to the NCAA for immediate eligibility. It is expected that the NCAA will make a decision on his status in the near future.
The other big name back at the U is Erik Erickson who missed the 2011 season with his second Tommy-John surgery of his collegiate career. He appealed to the NCAA for a sixth year of eligibility which he was able to receive.
Legendary head coach Jim Morris also caught up with the media prior to the start of fall practice.
