Here is your October 20th Fall Ball Update.
Arkansas: White 5 Cardinal 2
FAYETTEVILLE – Jake Wise went 3-for-3 with a homer and two RBI, while the bullpen threw 2.1 shutout innings to lead White to a 5-2 win in game four of the Cardinal-White series on Wednesday afternoon at Baum Stadium.
The White team stays alive with the win, trimming Cardinal’s lead in the series to 3-1. Game five is scheduled for Thursday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
Wise led the White team at the plate, hitting a home run for the second straight game and finishing the contest a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and two runs scored. Conor Costello was 2-for-2 with a run scored, while Brian Anderson also drove in two runs.
Missouri: Gold 6 Black 3
COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Gold Team took a 2-0 advantage at the Mizzou Fall World Series after pulling out a 6-3 victory over the Black Team on Wednesday. Game three of the series will be held this Saturday, Oct. 22, at 6 p.m. CT.
After a scoreless inning and a half, the Black Team jumped ahead with a run in the bottom of the second inning to go up 1-0. Gavin Stark led off the inning with a line drive base hit into left field for the team’s first hit of the game. He moved into scoring position on a throwing error by the pitcher on a pickoff attempt, allowing Stark to advance to second. After taking third on a groundout to the right side of the infield, Stark touched home on a base hit by Scott Sommerfeld, who blooped a single in front of the left fielder to plate the game’s first run.
James Madison: Purple 10 Gold 9
The Purple team captured the championship of the Purple and Gold World Series after defeating the Gold team in Thursday’s game 10-9 and completing the series comeback on Friday with a final score of 11-1 at Eagle Field at Veterans Memorial Park.
Game four turned into a slugfest as both teams battled at the plate. For the Gold team, Cole McInturff picked up a couple of hits, as did Conner Brown and Bradley Shaban. Junior Billy Logan powered a home run that brought in two runs for Gold.
Central Michigan: Maroon 5 Gold 4
MOUNT PLEASANT – Junior Reid Rooney hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday, giving the Maroon a 5-4 win in the final game of Central Michigan’s annual Fall World Series.
With the bases loaded and two outs, Rooney came to the plate and drove a pitch to center field to score Nick Regnier and Nate Theunissen for the game-winning runs. The hit capped a 1-for-3 day in which Rooney drew a walk and also scored a run.
Duke: Blue 8 White 6
DURHAM, N.C. – As the Duke baseball team continues fall practice this week, the Blue Devils held an intrasquad game on Wednesday morning at Jack Coombs Field.
In Wednesday’s intrasquad game, the Blue Team used a six-run third inning to break a 1-1 tie en route to an 8-6 win over the White Team.
Sophomore Jordan Betts led the Blue Team at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a home run and a double. His two-run homer in the third highlighted the six-run frame. Junior Marcus Stroman, junior Jeff Kremer and freshman Grant McCabe had two hits apiece. Freshman Reed Anthes and junior Ryan Munger both added a hit in the win, while sophomore Angelo LaBruna had an RBI and a run scored.
