Here is your Fall Ball Recap for October 16th.
Indiana: Cream 11 Crimson 1
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The 2011 IU Baseball Cream vs. Crimson Fall Series will go to a game five as the Cream Squad blasted Crimson, 11-1, on Saturday. Chad Martin delivered five shutout innings on the mound for the second time in the series, striking out eight batters in game four.
Freshman Collin McEnery starred as well for Team Cream, driving in five runs on 3-for-3 batting with a three-run homer and two-run double. He also made his way to the mound, closing out the contest by allowing just one hit in the final two shutout innings.
Blackhawk College 5 Iowa 3
IOWA CITY, Iowa – – The University of Iowa baseball concluded its fall season competition schedule last night with a 5-3 loss in 11 innings to Blackhawk College. Iowa played a number of its freshmen and sophomores to help the newcomers gain valuable game experience.
Illinois State: Black 7 Red 2
NORMAL, Ill. – Junior transfer Chris Razo pitched four shutout innings with 10 strikeouts to lead the black team to a 7-2 win over the red team Saturday during the Illinois State baseball team’s Fall World Series. The black team now leads the six-game intrasquad series, 3-0.
Eric Aguilera led the black team offensively with a 2-for-3 effort, including two RBI and one run scored in the seven-inning game. Mike Hollenbeck finished with a RBI, a run and a walk for the black team. Otto Roberts suffered the red team-loss, allowing three runs with four strikeouts through three innings.
Coastal Carolina: Game 1: Black 8 Bronze 5 Game 2: Black 9 Bronze 4
CONWAY – The Black squad took both games of Saturday’s doubleheader to win the 2011 Chanticleer World Series. Bryce Dial recorded four RBI and a homerun to lead the Black clad Chanticleers to an 8-5 win in game one and Alex Buccilli knocked in three runs in the squad’s 9-4 victory in game two.
Bronze lit up the scoreboard at Watson Stadium/Vrooman Field first in the top of the opening inning of game one. Luke Willis drew a leadoff walk, was sacrificed to second and stole third before being driven home on a Jacob May fly ball to right field.
The Black squad would respond in the home half of the inning with two runs of their own to take a 2-1 lead. Rich Witten and Dial reached base with two down to set up a Daniel Bownman two RBI double to the center field wall.
Louisville: JJ’s Juice 9 Swiss Cheese 1
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Sophomore second baseman Ty Young homered and was 3-for-4 overall while freshman right-hander Jared Ruxer pitched five strong innings to lead JJ’s Juice to a 9-1 series-clinching victory over Swiss Cheese’s in game two of the Pizza Bowl on Saturday at Jim Patterson Stadium.
Young (Coatesville, Pa./Malvern Prep) had a solo home run in the third inning, singled in the seventh and had an RBI double in the eighth while scoring three runs in the win. Sophomore shortstop Alex Chittenden (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central HS) added a hit, two RBI and two runs, while junior Shane Crain (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Christian HS) had a double, two RBI and a run scored in the win.
North Carolina: Blue 11 White 6
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Blue Team jumped out to an 8-1 lead after five innings Saturday night but the White Team responded with a five-run sixth before freshman Mason McCullough closed out the 11-6 win for the Blue Team. With the second series of the Fall World Series tied at 1-1 the teams will return to action Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Blue Team jumped all over starter R.C. Orlan pushing three runs across in the first inning thanks to run producing hits from Colin Moran and Cody Stubbs along with a fielder’s choice from Mike Zolk.
