Here is your October 6th Fall Ball Update.
Purdue: Black 5 Gold 3
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Black team scored five unanswered runs over the final three innings to rally for a 5-3 victory in game four of the Black and Gold Series Wednesday afternoon, officially claiming a series victory with its third victory of the five-game set at Lambert Field.
The series finale is set for Thursday at 5:10 p.m. at Lambert. The Black team leads the intrasquad scrimmage 3-0-1.
Stephen Talbott knocked in the game-tying run with a two-out single in the seventh inning and Bennett Oliver’s double plated the go-ahead tally in the top of the eighth for the Black team.
North Carolina: Blue 9 Navy 4
Chapel Hill, N.C.- The Blue squad took a 9-4 win over Navy on Wednesday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium in an eight-inning scrimmage in which eight different pitchers took the mound.
The teams were tied at 2-2 after two innings before Blue scored at total of five runs in the next three innings to take control of the scrimmage. Blue had a 10-5 edge in base hits.
A total of eight pitchers were used, with none going more than two innings on Scout Day.
East Carolina: Gold 10 Purple 5
GREENVILLE, N.C. – Junior Jharel Cotton (1-0) struck out a game-high five batters and scattered six hits over four shutout innings helping the Gold (2-0) team to a 10-5 win over Purple (0-2) Wednesday afternoon at Lewis Field inside Clark-LeClair Stadium in game two of the 2011 Purple-Gold World Series.
In a wild game that saw both teams combine for 22 hits in eight innings, seven players recorded multiple hits on the day. Juniors Bryan Bass, Sam King and John Wooten were all 2-for-3, while Jay Cannon and Chase McDonald posted a 2-for-4 day. The sophomore duo of Jack Reinheimer and Drew Reynolds both added an RBI to go with their two base knocks.
