LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas baseball, with 10th-year head coach Ritch Price, announced its 2012 schedule on Wednesday. The Jayhawks’ 56-game schedule includes 21 games at Hoglund Ballpark, including home contests with traditional rivals Wichita State (April 10), Kansas State (April 25) and Missouri (May 17-19).
The Jayhawks will play 25 contests against schools that advanced to the NCAA Tournament a season ago, including conference series with College World Series participants Texas and Texas A&M.
KU opens the season with non-conference tournaments in each of its first five weekends. The Jayhawks will travel to Nashville, Tenn. (Feb. 17-19), Starkville, Miss. (Feb. 24-26), San Antonio, Texas (March 2-4 and March 15-18) and Minneapolis, Minn. (March 9-11).
The Jayhawks’ home opener is scheduled for Tuesday, March 6 – a two-game series with the University of North Dakota. KU will also face Southern Utah (March 20-21), Wichita State, Kansas State, Air Force (May 4-5) and Missouri State (May 6) in non-league games at Hoglund Ballpark.
KU’s home Big 12 series include three-game sets with Texas Tech (March 30-April 1), Texas A&M (April 13-15), Oklahoma (April 27-29) and Missouri (May 17-19).
Kansas will play its annual game at Kauffman Stadium against Border Showdown rival Missouri (April 18) as well as a road game against Creighton at T.D. Ameritrade Stadium in Omaha, Neb. (April 3) – the site of the College World Series.
Price’s team returns six position starters and six pitchers from last year’s team, which finished 26-30 overall.
