Weekend Fall Scrimmage Updates for September 26th

Here is a listing of Weekend College Baseball scrimmages that took place. Iowa took on future Division 1 opponent Omaha-Nebraska in the only intercollegiate matchup while North Carolina held two intrasquad scrimmages.

Iowa 4 Nebraska-Omaha 4

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The Iowa baseball team and Nebraska-Omaha battled to a 4-4 tie in a scheduled 14-inning exhibition Sunday afternoon at Duane Banks Field.

The Hawkeyes finished the game with 12 hits, four of which came off the bats of senior Phil Keppler and freshman Ryan Rumpf. Keppler and Rumpf each smacked two hits.

Ten pitchers saw action today for the Hawkeyes: Jarred Hippen, Matt Dermody, Tim Fangman, Patrick Lala, Sasha Kuebel, Phil Keppler, Ben Bergman, Nick Hibbing, Andrew Hedrick, Andrew Hanse.

UNC Saturday Scrimmage: Blue 2 Navy 1

Chapel Hill, N.C.- Jacob Stallings’ two-run home run to left in the fourth inning gave the Blue squad a 2-1 win over the Navy squad in a scrimmage that was shortened to five innings by rain on a sultry Saturday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium.

Navy had taken a 1-0 lead in the third on a Cody Stubbs single up the middle that drove in Mike Zolk from second. With Parks Jordan on first via a bunt single in the top of the fourth, Jacob Stallings hit a no-doubter to left for the final 2-1 margin.

Each team had three hits and there were no errors committed. Andrew Smith, Cody Stiles and Tate Parrish were the only three pitchers that threw.

UNC Sunday Scrimmage: Navy 9 Blue 3

Chapel Hill, N.C.- Jacob Stallings’ Grand Slam home run to left in the top of the fifth inning was the biggest hit in Navy’s 9-3 over the Blue squad on Sunday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium.

Navy led 1-0 going into the inning before Tom Zengel’s RBI single made the lead 2-0. Stallings’ blast upped the lead to 6-0. After Blue trimmed the lead to 6-2 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth, Cody Stubbs and Tom Zengel had back-to-back homers to lead off the three-run top of the seventh.

The Navy squad had an 11-7 edge in hits, while neither team committed an error.
