SALT LAKE CITY – Former four-time all-conference infielder Jay Brossman has joined the Utah baseball coaching staff as a student assistant coach. Brossman returns to the Utes after spending five years in the Los Angeles Angels minor league system.

“It is really nice to have Jay back,” Utah head coach Bill Kinneberg said. “He was such a good player and I knew that coaching could be in his future. I’m really excited to have him as part of our staff. His presence will help our ballclub a lot and his knowledge will be invaluable to this team.”

Brossman hit .359 over his four-year Utah career from 2004-07. He set school records for hits (307), doubles (69), and total bases (482).

Brossman was selected in the 36th round of the 2007 MLB draft. He was a Pioneer League All-Star in 2007. Brossman went as high as Double-A Arkansas in his career before voluntarily retiring due to injuries.
