Since 1970, Tony Rossi has called the shots for the Siena baseball team, but this year his staff will have a whole new look. Michael Kellar has been hired as the Saints’ volunteer assistant coach, completing an entirely new group of assistants hired this summer after Siena’s run to the MAAC title game in May.

Kellar played two seasons at the junior college level at Lake Land College in Mattoon, Ill. After Lake Land, he finished his collegiate career at MAAC rival Niagara. He later signed with the Evansville Otters of the Frontier League before suffering a career ending shoulder injury.

At Niagara, Kellar served as captain of the Purple Eagles baseball team his senior year and was named First Team All MAAC as a pitcher. He won six consecutive MAAC games, and ended his senior year with a 6-1 conference record and a team leading 3.56 ERA.

Kellar spent the 2007 summer season playing in the NYCBL with the Little Falls Miners collegiate team, and the 2008 summer playing with the Grand Lake Mariners in Celina, Ohio.

Kellar graduated from Niagara in 2009 with an undergraduate degree in education. He is currently working on his master’s degree in sports management which he plans to complete in February.
