Hi everyone. Just to get this started I’ll introduce myself: My name is Mike Le Bel and I’m heading into my senior year as a finance major here at the University of Rhode Island. I’m also an infielder on the Rhody baseball team.
Even though we are a ways away from the start of the 2012 college baseball season, the month of September is definitely a busy and exciting one. Heading back to school, getting to see your teammates again and sharing stories from summer ball is something that every college baseball player enjoys. And somewhere in between all of the meetings, strength and conditioning tests and classes – we get to see who came back an improved player and which newcomers are going to make an immediate impact on the diamond.
Speaking of new faces – we’ve also added a couple new coaches for the upcoming season. Coach Raphael Cerrato will be taking over the hitting duties and Coach Chris Smith will help Coach Foster out with the pitchers. It will be exciting to meet our new coaches and catch up with Coach Foster and Coach Cirella after having spent the summer away from Kingston. I know these guys are just as excited as we are to hit the turf come Saturday morning around 10 a.m. That will officially mark the end of summer, as well as the 2011 season.
It will also open up a new opportunity for every player, every coach and every team across the country to begin preparing to make a statement in 2012. I know that I speak for all of my teammates when I say that we couldn’t be more excited to get back to URI and put in a ton of hard work this fall… because for us, the season doesn’t start in February – it starts the day we return to campus.
Until next time,
Mike Le Bel
