CAPE COD, Mass. – Commissioner Paul Galop has announced the 2011 Cape Cod Baseball League All-League Team.
Heading the list of positional players is CCBL Most Valuable Player Travis Jankowski (Stony Brook) of Bourne, who hit .329 with 22 RBIs for the Bourne Braves, along with batting champion Stephen Piscotty (Stanford) of Yarmouth-Dennis, who hit .349, edging out fellow All-League catcher Dane Phillips (Oklahoma State) of Chatham by a mere .0002. Phillips led the league with 34 RBI.
Top Pro Prospect Award winner Victor Roache (Georgia Southern) of Cotuit was also named to the All-League team after batting .316 with six homers and 28 RBIs, while sportsmanship winner Patrick Cantwell (Stony Brook) of Bourne was also selected after batting .277 with eight RBIs.
Pacing the All-League pitchers were CCBL Top Pitcher award recipient Ryan Eades (LSU), who was 3-0 with a 0.84 earned run average, along with top relief pitcher Trevor Gott (Kentucky) of Orleans, who compiled a 1.29 ERA with 12 saves, Scott Firth (Clemson) of Hyannis, who was 3-0 with a 1.15 ERA, Joe Bircher (Bradley) of Falmouth who was 2-2 with a 1.44 ERA and a league-leading 48 strikeouts and Chris Overman (North Carolina St.), who was 2-0 with a perfect 0.00 ERA
Bourne led all teams with four All-League selections, while Hyannis, Falmouth and Wareham had three apiece and Brewster, Chatham, Cotuit, Harwich, Orleans and Y-D had two each.
“We’re pleased to announce the Cape Cod Baseball League 2011 All-League Team,” said Galop. “The balance of representation from all our ten teams highlights the incredible parity that the CCBL continues to display. This 25-man roster is made up of players whose performances exceeded expectations and whose statistics led the CCBL in all categories.
“Our head coaches played a major role in recommending this team and head statistician Chris Thoms did a remarkable job compiling and analyzing statistics for all categories.” Galop added. “We believe this 25-man roster is truly representative of the extraordinary talent that was here on Cape Cod this past summer and we congratulate each and every member for what has become a memorable summer for each and every member of this team”.
