Jacksonville State’s first baseman Ben Waldrip will sign with the Kansas City Royals after the Cape Cod All-Star Game on July 29th according to the Cape Cod Times.

The newspaper tweeted out the following on Saturday evening.

Firebirds’ Ben Waldrip will be signing with the Royals after All-Star game, according to Royals director of scouting Lonnie Goldberg.

Waldrip spent his freshman season at Division 2 St. Anselm College in New Hampshire before transferring to Cypress College for his sophomore season to play for Yarmouth-Dennis manager Scott Pickler. After the 2010 season, the Atlanta Braves picked him in the 42nd round but were not able sign him. He transferred for his junior season to Jacksonville State in the Ohio Valley Conference. He hit .344 with ten homers and 46 RBI for the Gamecocks. The Kansas City Royals selected him in the 40th round of this past June’s draft.

Waldrip decided to head to the Cape Cod Baseball League this summer where he has appeared in 31 games hitting .291 with six homers and 20 RBI. The Cape Cod Baseball League named him a starter for the Eastern Division in the upcoming CCBL All-Star game that takes place on July 29th.

Looks like you had a bad source on this one. Lonnie Goldberg is full of it. Ben made a great decision telling that liar no thanks. He should be drafted much higher in the 2012 draft since he has even better numbers in his senior year at Jax State.
