INDIANAPOLIS – Head coach Steve Farley and the Butler baseball program have announced coaching staff changes for the upcoming 2012 season. DJ Throneburg, who joined the staff this past season, will now serve as the program’s top assistant coach. Michael Dalton and Brian Hiscox have also been added to the staff.
Throneburg will continue to serve as BU’s pitching coach and recruiting coordinator. Under his tutelage last season, senior Dom Silvestri was an All-Horizon League honoree. Throneburg came to Butler in the winter of 2010 after four seasons at Parkland College.
Following the departure of former assistant coach Matt Tyner, who now holds the head coaching position at Bellarmine University, two new assistant coaches have been hired. Michael Dalton, who served as the head coach at Danville Area Community College in Illinois last season, will take over as the Bulldogs’ primary hitting instructor and fielding coach.
“We are very excited to have Michael joining our staff. He has strong ties to the state of Indiana with outstanding recruiting contacts throughout the Midwest,” Farley said.
Dalton also served as a volunteer assistant coach at Ball State University in 2008-09 and played collegiate baseball at Huntington College in Indiana.
“Michael has a great work ethic and he relates well to his players,” Farley said. “I’m confident that he will do a great job with our hitters and our infielders and he’ll play an active role in all aspects of our program.”
Hiscox, who served as an assistant coach at Ohio Wesleyan last season, will take the volunteer assistant coaching position for the Bulldogs.
“Brian will work primarily with our hitters, catchers and infielders, but he will be given duties in other areas of our program as well,” Farley said. “Brian is a tireless worker and he has a passion for the game. Our players are going to enjoy working with Brian.”
Hiscox played collegiate baseball at Otterbein University in Ohio and was honored as a Third Team All-American and First Team Academic All-American. He was also named All-Region and All-Conference. After graduating Magna Cum Laude, he finished his career with a .363 batting average and still holds school home run records for both single season (18) and career (44).
