Heading into the 2011 season, the real talk around the UConn program was the fact they had two absolute studs in George Springer and Matt Barnes. Both of these young men went in the first round of the 2011 MLB Draft to the Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox respectively. The rest of the Huskies squad was extremely talented including outfielder John Andreoli. He ended up finishing the year with a .317 average with 31 RBI as he started all 66 games for the Huskies. In the 2011 MLB Draft, the Cubs selected him in the 17th round.

Andreoli was presented with a contract by the Cubs but was unhappy with the terms of it so he decided to head down into the Cape Cod Baseball League to play with the Wareham Gatemen where he leads the team with a .344 batting average.

Jennifer Toland of the Worcester Telegram and Gazette put together a great piece on his experience on the cape this summer and his rich bloodlines which includes being a first cousins with current Boston Red Sox RHP Daniel Bard and Georgia Tech RHP Luke Bard.
