Oregon catcher/infielder Jack Marder had a difficult 2011 campaign which saw him hit .209 with two homers and 19 RBI in 45 games. After the season was over, the Seattle Mariners selected him in the 16th round of the 2011 MLB Draft.
“I think they were messed up in their drafting,” Marder joked before turning serious. “It’s one of those things they think potentially I could be a good catcher. As devastating as (the college season) was for me, I guess a few teams thought it was a fluke I didn’t have a good year.”
He hasn’t been behind the plate for the Falmouth Commodores as he deals with a broken thumb which caused him to miss the last 17 games of the Ducks season. He has great at the plate hitting .309 while leading the team with 12 RBI.
