GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A Nick Vickerson two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth lifted Mississippi State to a gritty 4-3 walk-off victory over top-ranked Florida Saturday in the NCAA Super Regional at UF’s McKethan Stadium.

The win forces a decisive Game 3 in the best-of-three series Sunday, with a trip to the 2011 College World Series in Omaha, Neb., on the line. First pitch for Sunday’s contest will be Noon CT and the game will be televised by ESPN.

On Saturday, it looked as if the Gators were going to ride a solid starting pitching performance from ace Karsten Whitson to victory. While the Gators built a 2-0 lead, Whitson went six shutout innings before allowing back-to-back-to-back singles with one out in the seventh, the third from Cody Freeman trimming UF”s lead to 2-1. Whitson was pulled at that point and the Bulldogs capitalized with another RBI single from Brent Brownlee to tie the game.
