2011 NCAA Nashville Regional: Day 1 Recap

Here is your 2011 NCAA Nashville Regional Day 1 Recap.

Vanderbilt 10 Belmont 0

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Curt Casali drove in three runs, Mike Yastrzemski collected three hits and Vanderbilt scored six runs in the fourth inning en route to a 10-0 victory over Belmont in the second game Friday in the Nashville Regional at Hawkins Field.

With the victory the Commodores (48-10) advance to take on Troy at 7 p.m. CT on Saturday, while Belmont (36-25) will take on Oklahoma State at 2 p.m. in an elimination game.

Casali doubled home two runs in the first inning to give the Commodores an early lead and added an RBI groundout during the six-run fourth inning. Vanderbilt took advantage of a pair of throwing errors by Belmont starter Matt Hamann in the fourth, which along with five hits gave VU a commanding advantage.

Troy 9 Oklahoma State 2

NASHVILLE – No. 21 Troy’s regular combination of quality pitching, strong defense and timely hitting once again keyed a victory as the Trojans took a 9-2 win over Oklahoma State in the opening game of the NCAA Nashville Regional.

With the win, the Trojans advance to face the winner of Vanderbilt-Belmont on Saturday night at 7 p.m.

“Today’s game was much like the way we have played the entire season,” Troy head coach Bobby Pierce said. “As a coach, you hope your team plays the way that got them here and I was real pleased to see us come in and do that. That’s kind of what we have seen all year.
