We gathered to watch the NCAA Selection Show at the Commodore Grille, a restaurant near campus, with about 200 of our fans. Even after four years, it is still very exciting to see “Vanderbilt” pop up on ESPN as a regional participant. We are fortunate to be considered a national seed (#6) this year, meaning we will host the first two rounds of the tournament as long as we continue to win and advance.
It was a team goal to put ourselves in position to host a regional, and even though we accomplished this goal, the challenges are just beginning. We have three talented teams in our regional—Oklahoma State, Troy and Belmont—who earned a spot in the tournament just like we did. We play Belmont first on Friday night. The Bruins won the A-Sun Conference Tournament last weekend, and have been playing very good baseball at the end of the year. It should be a great game.
It’s amazing to realize how quickly the season has gone by. It feels like last week we were in San Diego playing our season opener and now it’s tournament time. Between the homework, games, and travel, it’s very easy to look up and see how much time has passed by. We’ve enjoyed every minute of this season so far, and hopefully we can extend it for a few more weeks.
Until next week—’Go Dores
